Principal's Message

Greetings Emery Families!

The surprise heatwave has made things a bit challenging but the staff and students have really done a great job staying cool, hydrated, and focused! Here is an update and what you need to know:

Back-to-School Night:
This evening was a huge success and it was wonderful meeting many of you! Teachers have shared how we monitor academic progress and how we use iReady data to provide families with updates on student progress in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. This valuable data, along with other teacher assessments, is what drives our instruction and informs teacher lessons. Each day is valuable at Emery, so please be sure students are completing their homework assignments and attending school every day.

Attendance Updates:
Here is some attendance information you may not be aware of. There are 180 days in a school year, and every day at Emery is packed with learning. While excused absences are allowed, they still count as absences and can impact both your child's progress and the school's funding. School attendance is mandatory and tracked by the state. To help minimize absences:
     ● Avoid vacations during the school year.
     ● Schedule doctor appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.
     ● If your child must miss part of the day, try to return them to school afterward, as partial attendance still counts.
Tardies and excessive misses are counted and reported. Letters are sent as a courtesy to remind families if absences become excessive for the norm. Our first batch will be sent later this week. Reporting Period One Attendance Results = 97% Great Job Emery!

Independent Study:
While the best place for children to learn is at school, we understand that emergencies can arise. If a student needs to miss 1-15 days and this is known in advance, we can arrange an independent study packet for unavoidable absences. This is intended only for extreme cases and does not apply to sick days. If an emergency occurs, please contact the office for more details on the process.

School Site Council & ELAC & DELAC Dates 24 - 25:
Here are all the dates for our SSC/ELAC/DELAC meetings. We are thankful for our new Parent SSC Board Members. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. Please join us if you can.

Positive Growth Mindset Quotes:
Research has shown that when humans think positively and believe they can achieve, they have a greater chance of success. That is why we practice positive growth mindset thinking every day at Emery. Here is a copy of this month's quote. and are sharing monthly quotes to encourage positive thinking and hard work through our own efforts. Here is this month's quote. Print it for your home and repeat it with your child. Join the conversation!

Eagles Jubilee:
Did you know that a group of eagles is called a jubilee? The PBIS Committee has decided to create a space in which we can collectively celebrate monthly character attributes, positive growth mindset, digital citizenship, and upstanding behavior that keeps our school climate positive and uplifting. So we will have monthly school assemblies called “The Eagles Jubilee” to celebrate our Eagles' successes and also celebrate perfect monthly attendance. Families of students receiving an award will be notified and invited to attend. Each Eagles Jubilee will also have a Spirit Day theme. Our September 13, 2024 Eagles Jubilee will be Hawaiian Day! Get out those colorful lei’s, dresses, and shirts!

PBIS Rewards: Events and E-Tickets
Here at Emery, we want to recognize students for positive behaviors and habits of mind. This is why we award students with “E-Tickets” so they can collect and cash in to attend fun PBIS events and earn prizes via our planned raffles. Ask your child if they earned any “E-Tickets” and what they were doing when they received them.

October 3 & 4- NO SCHOOL on both days.
Teachers will dedicate the entire day to scheduled individual visits. Teachers have already sent scheduling sign-ups via Parent Square.

**To keep up on dates, check our Emery.bpsd.us website and click on “About Emery” then “Emery Events Calendar” and check Parent Square.**

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. It’s an honor to serve and collaborate with the fantastic Emery Community.
